Your Wedding Magazine feature: Skincare advice during the winter months

I was asked by Your Wedding Magazine to write a feature for their August/September 2023 issue for Your East Anglian Wedding Magazine on advice for brides who work outdoors and their skin has suffered as a result during the winter months, these are my top tips on how you can repair the ravages of the cold and wind in time for your summer wedding.

My number one tip is having a skincare routine, it might sounds self explanatory but treat it as a selfcare ritual morning and night. I tell all my clients to start this at least six months before their wedding day. The winter can really take its toll on your skin, you want to focus on getting as much moisture as possible into your skin during this time. Invest in a thicker moisturiser in the winter, cooling temperatures and central heating will dry your skin out. My go to products are cleansers, serums and moisturisers containing Hyaluronic acid. This ingredient retains moisture to boost plumpness, reduces wrinkles and fine lines, whilst leaving your complexion glowing. Products I'm loving currently are Eucerin Hyaluron-filler + Elasticity day cream, Vichy Mineral 89 Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Serum and CeraVe Hydrating Cleaner for normal to dry skin.

Secondly switch your cleanser to an oil or balm based product, if you’re using a foaming or abrasive cleanser in the summer switch this out for a cream or oil based cleanser. My favourite balm cleaner is Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm, it smells delicious and you feel like you've had a facial after using it. In the winter your skin produces less oil so it’s important to wash your skin gently to prevent oil from being stripped. Even if your skin is naturally oily it’s most likely producing more because your skin is dehydrated, so don’t forget to drink lots of water.

SPF is a must even in winter and especially if you’re working outside. The UV rays can still be just as strong in the winter months and even on cloudy days. Opt for an SPF from factor 30 to 50 and apply on your face and other areas that are exposed daily. My favourite is La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF50 sun cream, it's great under makeup and doesn't have a greasy finish.
